The Eastern Province, also known as Næ̆gĕnahira, is a beautiful stretch of land along the island's eastern coast at the Bay of Bengal. With its stunning lagoons and inlets, it's hard not to feel relaxed and peaceful here. The largest city, Kalmunai, has a strong Muslim culture that adds to the friendly vibe of the region. It is an excellent place to visit to learn about different cultures. One of the main attractions is the Temple of the Thousand Pillars, the Koneswaram. This Hindu temple devoted to Shiva in the form of Kona-Eiswara (Konesar) is built atop Swami Rock, which offers breathtaking views overlooking Trincomalee and the Indian Ocean.
